Coffee At Birkdale

Speaking & Consulting

Coffee @ Birkdale has introduced me to experiences that have allowed me to grow personally & professionally.

Personally, I have met many new friends, enjoyed numerous cups of coffee, and heard many great stories. I’ve enjoyed watching the leaves turn in the Fall and Claus get pulled in by Great Danes during the Winter. The trees budding in the spring and soaking up the sun in the summer while watching the smiles walk by.

Proffessionally, I have found ways to market myself EFFECTIVELY on the Internet using the power of Web 2.0. I have learned how to quickly sift through the endless pages of useless information to find the gems. I have learned how to garner useful bits of information from social networks, forums, blogs, videos, etc. that can be applied to business. This is just from the technology side of the project.

Most importantly, I have learned the power of networking. Give and you will recieve. By providing the right introduction, it can change at MINIMUM two people’s lives. It could potentially change millions of lives. There is always a way to do what you love and make a living… I’ve heard numerous examples first hand. If you take a picture and write a paragraph about someone you’ll never forget their face and story (names still can be hard). While learning all of this I saw the project evolve from merely a marketing tool to a way of life. That taking the time to learn about others is greatly appreciated.

The story started to catch on in the vast space of the Web with a few hits here and there. Then a local highschool newspaper picked it up. It grew even more when it was mentioned on the radio and word of mouth. Where eventually it reached academic levels and it is mentioned in a book by Dr. Rushkoff.

Naturally you have to be an extravert to take on such an endeavor. Toastmasters was introduced to me through this project which has only enhanced my communication skills. That being said, there is nothing more enjoyable than to share this story and teach what I have learned. I have already experienced the pleasure of speaking at Winthrop University & NCASP (North Carolina Association of Staffing Proffessionals).
